Job: Sniper Week 1 - December 8th My nation France got involved in WWI because of imperialism. Germany and my nation almost went to war over the the country of Morocco. The Russians asked us to help them out and, we gave them full support. Thats when Germany declared war on us. Britain then responded in time by helping. Allies were formed with France, Britian, and Russia. While Germany, Italy, and Austria Hungary formed alliances. Then Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia. We also wanted to regain as the top country in Europe.
The assassination
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinan was quite tragic. This event took place June 28, 1914 when The Archduke announced that he had intentions to visit Sarajevo. Members of a Serbian terrorist group called "Black Hand" decided to pre-meditate the assassination. Dispite all the warnings, Archduke Franz Ferdinana ignored them, and decided to ride through Sarajevo in an open roof car with his wife. The Archduke's driver had gotten lost, and decided to take a back road. At this point in time, is when everything went down hill. One of the members of the "Black Hand" fired twice at the Archdukes wife, and then at the Archduke himself, killing them both.
Battle Plan
As a sniper in WWI, our plan is quite simple, to say the least. Trenches have been dug out about 6ft, to protect our men from getting shot. Earlier in the war, we used "The Schlieffen Plan" but was unsuccessful. Our artillery supply is quite heavy. Our weapons could take out anything easily with one shell.
The poster to the left can be found all around France. The French phrase "pour la France versez votre or" means "Give your gold to france" in English. This, and many other posters like this are used to encourage the people of France to join, and help fight the war. Many of the posters use various forms of propaganda to try to persuade the people of france as easily as possible.
Russia's exit, US entry
It was quite stunning to hear that Russia was dropping out of the war, and the US was joining. Russia signed a treaty with Germany called Brest-Litovsk which dropped them out. After this, Germany began focusing on the western front. We began to start worrying about all of this, because Russia dropped out because of the revolution. This was a good thing, because they were against us. But the fact that USA would be entering frightened us, because the US army was much stronger than our own. We did not want to lose to them. We had to stay strong, and try to see through the fog. The Treaty of Versailles
Our leader Georges Clemenceau wanted Germany to pay for the damage that made us suffer over the four years. Georges also wanted to make sure that a war like this would never happen again. Germany had to give us back Alsace and Lorraine, Germany must also pay Reperations to us, to cover all of rebuilding of tons of houses, and factories.
